To be honest, I’m not quite sure what makes red velvet cake so appealing (I have a sneaky suspicion that it’s got more to do with the cream cheese icing that usually accompanies it, rather than the actual red velvet part).  Nonetheless, the presence of red food colouring seems to be capable of turning a mundane cupcake into a rich, decadent teatime treat.  It’s not limited to cupcakes anymore, you can now find recipe for red velvet anything.  Christina from Sweet Pea’s Kitchen decided to put together three of my favourite things in the whole world:  red velvet, cheesecake, and brownies (I’m going to have to try this soon).  Here’s some red velvet inspiration, have you tried anything at home?

Red Velvet Cheesecake Brownies from Sweet Pea’s Kitchen.

Red Velvet Crepes from Duhlicious.

Red Velvet Cake Balls from Bakerella.

And apparently Blue Velvet is the new Red Velvet.  I’m not convinced that it has the same appeal?
