Last weekend I had loads of fun playing with our new power tool toy, the Skil Fox 3-in-1 multi-sander. I have to confess that I’ve never used a sander before, but I found the Skil Fox to be incredibly easy to use (I was even brave enough to use it for the first time when hub wasn’t home, so I had no male input at all!). I really hate sandpaper, since it always feels quite messy, inefficient and awkward to use. The Skil Fox 3-in-1 multi-sander has three sections/attachments. The delta sander part looks like a iron, and can be turned to face either direction to sand either hard-to-reach places, or flat surfaces. The orbital sander attachment is great for larger flat surfaces. The three parts are easily changed, and the sandpaper attaches almost like velcro. There is an integrated dust box (I was really impressed at how little dust I created), or you can connect your vacuum cleaner for bigger jobs. And the whole kit comes in a really cute carry bag!
To put our sander to the test, I decided to create a fun way to display our new polaroid-style prints from Nifty250. I bought an old louvre-style cupboard door from a local junk shop and got to work removing the old paint (I later realised the paint was about 5mm thick, but it was still no match for the Skil Fox sander).
Instead of removing all the paint from the louvre parts (because, let’s be honest, even with a power sander, life is still too short to try to remove all the paint from those slats), I decided to partially sand them to create a weathered, white-washed look.
I sanded the frame down completely, and gave it a couple of coats of acrylic paint (which came out a lot more purple than I expected). All that remained was to add a picture hook, and my new display was ready to go.
This system is also great for displaying jewellery – you can hang earrings from the slats, and add small hooks around the frame to hand necklaces and bracelets.
I was really impressed with the Skil Fox 3-in-1 multi-sander, and would recommend it to anyone looks for a multi-functional tool. The sander is distributed by Bosch in South Africa, and will be available at all good hardware stores. But before you rush out to buy one, you can enter the competition below to win one!
To enter, head over to Pinterest, browse around for a cool DIY project for which you would need the Skil Fox 3-in-1 multi-sander, and post the link in the comments section below (it can come from any website, not Pinterest exclusively).
